The Sound Field
The Sound Field
The Sound Field is a Bay Area electric trio, playing original songs written over the years by the band's frontwoman, Deborah Grabien. Deb's bassist for 41 years is her husband, Nic Grabien; his work evokes Jack Casady, Chris Squire, Stanley Clark and John Entwistle. Drummer Larry Luthi plays regularly with several local bands, ranging from jazz to bluegrass to jam bands.

The Sound Field's first CD, The Bucket List, features stellar guest playing from David Lindley, Mark Karan, Jason Crosby, Pete Sears, Lauren Murphy, Mookie Siegel and David Phillips. Of the CD's eleven songs, ten are original. Deb is a storyteller, and she holds nothing back: the songs range from sexy to furious to heartbroken to resigned. From "This House", written for Lauren Murphy about her need to leave her home in El Dorado, to the remembered rage of a powerless girl in "Tell Me Again" to the resignation and acceptance of an old woman letting go in "Little Umbrellas" and "Somewhere In Time", passion runs through these stories like connective tissue.
