“A local phenom” SF Chronicle

"Mick is a San Francisco treasure! Sweetwater Rocks!!!!” Michael Anderson, Assistant Master Electrician, SF Opera.

Originally from New Orleans, Mick Berry has been living in San Francisco since 1986. He brings the funky, street swinging jazz of New Orleans drumming to Sweetwater, playing with some of the Bay Area’s top artists: Ric Wilson, guitar/vocals (Huey Lewis and the News; Booker T. Jones); Jef Labes, keyboards/vocals (Bonnie Raitt; Van Morrison), Alex Baum, bass/vocals (Dan Hicks; Lockjaw Davis), and Rob Dehlinger trumpet/vocals (“the kind of seedy edge that conjures vivid images of drunken speakeasies” Jazz Corner). Mick himself has played with New Orleans piano virtuoso Henry Butler, Eddie Henderson (trumpeter for drumming legend Elvin Jones); Michael Wolff (band leader Arsenio Hall), and Paul Jackson Jr. (bass player with Herbie Hancock and Headhunters).

In addition to New Orleans/Jazz/Blues classics, the band will cover, Afro-Cuban, Classic Rock, and orginal compositions by Jef Labes.

Here’s your chance to catch the SF Bay Area’s very own virtuosos stretching out their musical joy. A guaranteed great time to funkify your Sunday afternoon.
