Jazz Mafia's Bay Revue is an ongoing, collaborative, and carefully curated series that shines the light on Bay Area's vocal royalty who share Jazz Mafia's adventurous musical spirit. Vol. 3 features Erin Honeywell, Olivia Ruff, and Moorea Dickason, backed by Jazz Mafia's Heaviest Feather.
Formed in 2017, this brass-heavy octet of Jazz Mafia veterans and rising stars has already made rounds of the West Coast festival circuit, and is known for its rollicking, theatrical approach. The San Francisco Chronicle noted that "The Mafia’s trademark mix ’n’ mash of funk, hip-hop and jazz embraces the genre-crossing tradition of great Bay Area bands like Tower of Power and Santana." Heaviest Feather recently performed at San Francisco's Outside Lands Music Festival, collaborated with GRAMMY-winning composer and DJ Mason Bates at the Kennedy Center's REACH Opening Festival in Washington, DC, and composed and performed the live score for The Soiled Dove – a circus-meets-burlesque dinner theater show in collaboration with the Vau De Vire Society.
Erin Honeywell is a Bay Area vocalist and songwriter who has entertained crowds throughout the U.S. and abroad with her rich sound. With influences ranging from Aretha Franklin and Ella Fitzgerald to Erykah Badu, Ms. Honeywell's voice easily flows from enchanting jazz melodies to powerhouse Soul and R&B, with open-hearted Pop sensibilities. In 2016, Erin Honeywell released her debut EP Speak Truth Love, combining dynamic vocals with poignant lyricism rooted in self-discovery and collective liberation. Credits include Jazz Mafia, Vybe Society, and Stax-inspired soul band OTIS, with whom Erin opened for the legendary Charles Bradley and is releasing a full length album, Unite, later this year.
Moorea is a singer, performer and recording artist in the SF Bay Area. She’s the lead singer in the original art-rock band, Raze The Maze (formerly MoeTar) with collaborator, Tarik Ragab. She is also one of four singers in the all female-identified a cappella group, HIVE which performs all over the US with loop pedals, effects and various artist collaborations.
Olivia grew up in a multi-generational musical family in Hawaii. She is known for her earthy tonality and soulful voice, and her music is rooted in soul, hip-hop, reggae, pop and funk, resonating from the Islands to Oakland. A powerful performer, Olivia is the lead vocalist with kaleidoscopic Bay Area-based five-piece band Mama’s Soup. She is a member of the dub and psychedelic trip-hop group Liberation Movement and a member of the Female fronted Oakland Funk band Sal's Greenhouse.
