Lauren Murphy
Lauren Murphy
This very special show highlights the return of one of the Bay Area's most
beloved singer/songwriters & energetic performers, Baton Rouge born Lauren
Murphy. Lauren is best known for her background vocals with the San
Francisco based band ZERO(Steve Kimock, Robert Hunter, Judge Murphy), and
as band leader/main composer of Lansdale Station(2005-2013), the award
winning act she established with her late husband, legendary vocalist, The
Judge.

Tonight she will be backed by some of the finest players on the Barbary
Coast. Last year Murphy relocated to the artistic hamlet of Lower Alabama
after releasing her latest record, "El Dorado", dedicated in loving memory
to her late husband & singing partner, The Judge.

Her band tonight boasts the talents of Vince Littleton on drums (Merl
Saundes/Super Diamond), Mike Sugar on Bass (Jambay), young guitar wizard
James Harman, and Mountain Fiddler, Lisa Bond. Lauren is widely known for
her soulful vocals, ranging from the purest tones to down right powerhouse
grit, as well as her award winning compositions. Tonight's 'Mid Summer
Trip' will take the audience on a journey from the Sierra Nevada hill
country to the Psychedelic shores of the Pacific, touching on the rich
legacy of Zero, Lansdale Station, as well as her new compositions that dip
into the Swampy regions of the Gulf States. A charismatic performer who
relates intimately with her audience, Murphy's finely honed chops are
enough to seduce even the toughest critics. Her repertoire boasts a little
something for everyone. In 2010, Glide Magazine listed her version of
Allen Toussaint's "On The Way Down" with Steve Kimock, Bobby Vega, The
Judge, and ZERO, as one of the Top 5 all time covers, along side
Government Mule, Widspread Panic, and Phish. Murphy has also worked
closely w/ Wavy Gravy & SEVA Foundation over the years.

No Depression Magazine said of her newest release , "Simply Brilliant; A
record everyone should have in their collection. Every song hits in places
that everyone who ever draws breath is likely to feel: a sudden flush of
the cheeks, a tightening of the muscles that control laughter or tears, or
maybe in the pit of the stomach. Emotional Honesty, The Real Deal, these
songs of strength are delivered by Lauren's signature smoky vocals, and
just enough less detachment to make damned sure that when the lyrics make
her bleed, you're going to bleed too." Paul Liberator of the Marin IJ
second's that emotion stating, "It would make Judge proud".

As a live performer she's been described as brassy bawdy and graceful.
Lauren has played many of the largest concert halls and festivals on the
West Coast, as well as recently being a guest Lecturer on The Craft of
Southern Songwriting at "Millsaps College's Art & Lecture Series". Her
songs can be heard on mainstream radio stations from the Atlantic to the
Pacific.

Compared to Patty Griffin, EmmyLou Harris, & Grace Slick, with the passion
of Janis Joplin, Murphy is completely unique in her vocal stylings.
Sensitive and powerful, she captivates her audience with finely crafted
tales that will free you mind and make you dance.
