It's been a good year for the Sweetwater Music Hall, and the local press has taken notice. We are very proud to announce that we've been voted Best Live Music Venue in all the regional news outlets that vote on such things, including: North Bay Bohemian, Mill Valley Patch and Pacific Sun, which said: One million dollars has a nice ring to it, especially when you consider that's what the renovators of Sweetwater Music Hall spent on their new sound system, according to general manager for music operations and talent buyer Aaron Kayce. 'It's one of the best rooms in the Bay Area,' he says, noting that a lot of thought went into the layout of the bar, dance floor and general acoustics. There is also an emphasis on "really good food" produced by Chef Gordon Drysdale. It's all brought Marin's best live music venue a lot of notoriety the past year and some stellar acts, including Furthur, Patterson Hood of Drive-By Truckers and Justin Townes Earle. Kayce says he's got some treats for musical Marinites in the pipeline: 'If you book it they will come,' he says, and smiles. For a complete listing of Sweetwater events, see our calendar. Brunch is served 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m., with live music 11-2.
NW funk icon, multi-instrumentalist/vocalist Lucky Brown will join the Polyrhythmics for this special performance. Lucky Brown, who released his recent full length release Space Dream last year on Tramp Records, has been a long-time collaborator with the Polyrhythmics who's personnel are featured on many of his releases. For this show, Lucky will join the band to sing and perform an amalgamation of Deep Funk classics from his own catalog as well as guesting on the original the dance-floor igniters that Polyrhythmics have built their reputation on. The Polyrhythmics are an all original 8-piece Funk and Afro-beat Orchestra comprised of some of Seattle’s finest rhythmic and melodic musicians. The music is a fusion of music from all over the world, featuring unique, forward thinking arrangements, stellar improvisation, heavy grooves, and dynamic interplay. Together for just under a year, Polyrhythmics have quickly gained notoriety playing to packed clubs, and festival crowds all over the Northwest.
